Here’s the latest Nintendo promotional video for their forthcoming handheld gaming platform, the 3DS. It’s due for launch in the UK on March 25th, and I must confess this video has piqued my interest a bit. I am not a fan of 3D, and purposely seek out the 2D version of any movie I see in the cinema. But I have now learned that you can scale the 3D on the 3DS, and even turn it off completely.
Why would you want to turn it off completely I hear you ask? Well, it’s important to do that with very young children – Nintendo have announced that children under the age of 6 should not use the 3D display on the 3DS as it could cause them headaches. Apparently there will be a warning label on each box shipped – I hope all the parents read that, as I know from personal experience that the DS is a popular gaming platform amongst young kids.
So if you can control your 3D settings, then I’m more interested… After all, our old first generation DS is looking a little long in the tooth these days… 😉 I know from experience that there’s a great selection of titles already available for the platform, and almost all existing DS and DSi titles will be playable on the 3DS. And I’m looking forward to playing with the motion sensor and gyro sensor – I’ve become very used to that functionality in my iPhone and iPad and it’ll be fun to see how that gets used on a dedicated gaming platform.
