I had my best mother’s day ever today. My carefully laid plans for my lie-in and breakfast in bed paid off perfectly – the geekdaughter even remembered that she was supposed to wake Daddy instead of Mummy in the morning 🙂 I had some nice quiet time to myself when the geekdaddy took the geekdaughter to her swimming lesson and the geekson was napping, which allowed me to tidy up the breakfast things and watch some Glee 🙂 Then we had our nice big family lunch out, which sadly my Mum couldn’t make it too as she was feeling poorly 🙁 The geekson has had an upset stomach all week, and I think she caught it off him. Because he’s still feeling poorly, the geekson was not his usual, charming, smiley self at lunch, and I had to cuddle him a lot more than usual (never really a hardship, although it did result in my dropping soft noodles with beansprouts down my top!).
After lunch my sister-in-law very kindly took the geekdaughter home with her to have some playtime with her cousins. I left the geekdaddy at home to monitor the baby monitor whilst the geekson napped, and I headed over to my Mum’s to deliver her flowers and card. She still looked very poorly, but did manage to drink the cup of tea I made her. So I got to look after my Mum a bit too, which is always important on Mother’s Day 🙂
Luckily for the geekdaddy, the geekdaughter makes me a mother’s day present at nursery each year, so he hasn’t had to worry about that side of things (yet!). This year my present was a beautiful bracelet, and the geekdaughter proudly told me how she had chosen each bead and threaded it onto the elastic. I was a very proud Mummy and wore it all day.
It did make me think about how far the geekdaughter has progressed since this time last year. For mother’s day last year she painted a red heart, which nursery then wrote on the back of and laminated. Also last year she didn’t get the hang of giving a gift, and that red heart has spent most of the last year hanging from the door knob of her wardrobe. I kept trying to take it back, and she wouldn’t have any of it! This year she was desperate for me to open the little wrapped gift, and hasn’t made any attempts to take it back at all.
My little girl. She’s growing so big already. Thank you, baby girl. Thank you for making me the happiest Mummy, and giving me the best mother’s day ever 🙂 And thank you geekdaddy for helping her.
The only way it could have been better would be if I wasn’t currently suffering from the geekson’s upset stomach as well. Didn’t stop me eating a vast quantity of Chinese food at lunchtime, even though I might regret that later…
