No, not my birthday. This blog’s birthday.
One year ago today, I published my first post. A very innocuous introduction to me and to this blog. At the time I was looking for a little project to keep me occupied whilst on maternity leave from work, having had the geekson three months previously. I had no idea where this blog was going to take me. Even now, when I look back, I’m amazed at how far I’ve come in the space of just one year…
First and foremost, I’ve met some brilliant people. Some I only know online, many others I’ve had the chance to meet at the fantastic Blogger.Ed Northern lunches, at CyberMummy, and at other blogging events.
Speaking of which, I’ve started to get invitations to PR blogging events, which I am enjoying immensely. I’ve also had the opportunity to review various products (just don’t mention the backlog…)
I’ve become a Craniac, and a Rainbow Toy Awards Tester.
I’ve joined great communities at BritMums and Blogger.Ed
I’ve discovered a love of video blogging (vlogging), and launched geekmummy.tv. I attended the BritMums video blogging workshop at the start of the year, and I’ve really enjoyed being part of that community.
And recently I’ve even managed to earn a little bit of money through sponsored posts, and paid video work. Not enough to pay the mortgage (or even my CyberMummy hotel bill!), but I can dream, can’t I?
Probably the most fun and exciting this that’s happened to me is being a finalist in the MAD Blog Awards. I’m attending a glittering, star-studded award ceremony in London at the end of next month. I’m not expecting to win my category, but I’m loving every minute of being a finalist 🙂
And just yesterday I launched my new regular video spot – geekmummy’s app of the week.
Where will the next year take me? I don’t know. But it’s a fun ride, and I’m loving every minute of it!
