Win a Kindle with Simply Tap

by on November 29, 2011

As you may or may not know, I’m a bit of an app addict. I enjoy finding and testing new apps, and of course I enjoy sharing them with you too. I recently found out, from the lovely Sian over at Mummy-tips, about a new app which promises to simplify shopping, . Anything that simplifies shopping is good in my book, and as this one is a free app, I downloaded it and gave it a try. Shortly after this the developer of the app contacted me to ask if I was interested in hosting an AMAZING giveaway to help raise awareness of the app, and so I present to you my first ever giveaway…

Weekend app sale – Toca Boca

by on November 26, 2011

We’re an app-loving family (as you might have guessed by now), and I really enjoy sharing my favourite apps with you in my “app of the week” segment every Friday. I actually have quite a long list of apps that I’m going to share with you over the coming weeks. However, sometimes I hear about price discounts or offers on our favourite apps that just won’t wait until my next Friday segment, and I have to tell you about them as soon as I know!

This week it’s all about the geekson. He’s now 17 months old, and although he’s had access to an iPad since birth, it really seems like this week he’s taken a huge developmental leap in terms of interacting with it. Now instead of just randomly hitting at the screen he’s taking the time to look at what he is seeing, and to respond to it. He particularly loves anything with animals in it, as he’s learning to make the right animal noises, and watching him as he says “baa!” or “meow” to the screen is absolutely gorgeous! So it should come as no surprise that my app of the week this week is one we’ve been getting a lot of play time out of, and it involves animals…

I did something amazing yesterday

November 24, 2011

This is the geekdaughter’s latest favourite piece of jewellery. It came in a party bag from a birthday party she was at last weekend. It won’t have been very expensive, but that’s not the point. She loves it, and is currently wearing it all the time. And yesterday it fell down the toilet. A public [...]

Friendship – it’s a funny old thing

November 21, 2011

“They say true friends can go long periods of time without speaking and never question their friendship. These friends pick up like they just spoke yesterday regardless of how long it has been or how far away they live and don’t hold grudges. They understand that life is busy, but that you will always love [...]

geekmummy.tv – app of the week – Drawing Pad

November 18, 2011

This week’s app of the week is inspired by my friend Minibreak Mummy who wrote an excellent blog post last week explaining why she thinks the iPad is a perfect computer for toddlers. I have to agree completely with her on that, and so do both my kids! It came out in the comments to that post that [...]

Debate: Do you let your kids play violent video games?

November 15, 2011

The release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 last week (an 18 rated game) sparked some online discussion about whether kids should be allowed to play age-restricted video games. With stories of parents standing in line to buy copies for their 10 or 11-year olds, I was quite shocked. I’m of the opinion that [...]

Counselling? We don’t need counselling!

November 14, 2011

I’ve written before about our journey to donate the embryos remaining from the IVF treatment that made both the geekdaughter and the geekson possible, and a couple of months ago the geekdaddy and I took the next step along that road – the compulsory couples counselling session. We had to go and talk to one [...]
