This week’s app of the week is inspired by my friend Minibreak Mummy who wrote an excellent blog post last week explaining why she thinks the iPad is a perfect computer for toddlers. I have to agree completely with her on that, and so do both my kids! It came out in the comments to that post that she hadn’t thought of looking for a drawing app for the iPad, which I couldn’t believe, as there are so many great drawing apps for it! So this week I have taken it upon myself to share my favourite iPad drawing app. Read on to find out what it is…
The geekdaddy has always loved drawing, so it was perfectly natural for him to want to draw on the iPad from the day he got it. He’s bought quite a few drawing apps, and that means that the geekdaughter has been playing with them as well. The touch interface is very intuitive, and the geekdaughter was drawing in the iPad screen before she could hold a pen properly. For us as a family, there’s been one app that we’ve returned to again and again for drawing, and that’s the one I’m sharing with you this week as my app of the week. Drawing Pad by Darren Murtha Design is an iPad-only app with a great selection of drawing tools and a real potential for creative play for kids of all ages. Let me give you a tour:

Drawing Pad is available in the iTunes app store for £1.49. A selection of colouring books are available via in-app purchase for 69p each. Based on our extensive testing, it’s our favourite drawing app for the iPad 🙂
