It’s weird, but even though the geekdaughter hasn’t started school yet I still have a “back to school” feeling this week. Last week felt different, firstly due to the two bank holidays, but also due to the fact that I worked from home Wednesday and Thursday so didn’t have to do my usual 50 minute commute. I actually love my commute. It’s the time when I switch from being wife and mother to being an office worker, and back again at the end of the day. It always seems to throw me off slightly if I work from home as I haven’t had that time to get my head in the right space.
Couple that with a very tiring weekend where I’ve been solo child-wrangling most of the time as the geekdaddy has been on a course both days, and I’m not surprised I’m feeling more washed-out than usual.
I managed to get out to our local farmers’ market on Saturday, and both kids were (thankfully) beautifully behaved. We bought all sorts of goodies, in particular loads of pies, most of which have gone in the freezer for the coming weeks. Yes I know this doesn’t exactly fit with my plan to eat less carbs, but I like pie! And I reckon it’s more important that I work on not eating sugary stuff first.
So this is what my meal plan looks like for the week so far:
Monday: Ginger, chilli and lime chicken breasts (from the Waitrose “easy to cook” range)
Tuesday: Jubilee chicken pies (our local pie-man’s version of Coronation chicken!)
Wednesday: Minced lamb and pea curry (from My Daddy Cooks)
Thursday: No plans – I have a lunch meeting, and the geekdaddy has his monthly curry out with ex-work colleagues
Friday: Rich Pork Ragu with pasta (a Slimming World recipe)
Saturday: Pork Stroganoff (ended up not making this last week after all)
Sunday: Father’s Day, keeping free and allowing the geekdaddy to set the agenda here.
