Today the geekdaddy and I are abandoning the children with some very good friends of ours, and heading down to London for two days to attend the BritMums Live blogging conference. The geekdaughter is beside herself with excitement – she loves sleepovers, and has had her Trunki suitcase packed and ready to go for the last two days! I’m excited too, and I’m not sure if that’s because I’m looking forward to the conference, or because I get a couple of nights away in London with the geekdaddy.
It’s going to be a busy couple of days. We’ve got to all get out of the house this morning, and up to our friends’ house. Then the geekdaddy and I will get the train into London, and whilst we’re on the train we’ll read through the conference schedule together and plan which sessions we’re going to attend. I’m hoping we’ll have time to check in at our hotel before heading over to the conference venue, but we’ll see how the time goes.
Tonight is also the big ceremony to announce the winners of the Brilliance in Blogging awards. I’m a finalist in the video category (thank you again for all your votes that put me there), and tonight we get to find out who the judges decided were the best blogs in each category. Mine is a very strong category, and I think any one of the eight finalists would make a worthy winner, so I’m going in with no expectations other than to have a great time and celebrate blogging. Apparently there’s free wine
On Saturday the conference continues, and after lunch I will be running the “Introduction to video blogging” session. If you are interested in making video for your blog but don’t know where to start, or if you’ve tried video blogging but want to understand it more this is the session for you. I will be covering the following:
- Why video blog?
- What stops people video blogging
- What equipment you need
- What you do with the video once you’ve filmed it
- How to gain confidence in front of the camera
- How to edit your video.
If you’re going to the conference and think that sounds like a useful session I would love to see you there.
I haven’t made any plans for after the conference tomorrow yet, although I notice that the new Disney/Pixar movie “Brave” opens in cinemas this weekend, and I would love to see that if time permits.
On Sunday we’ll catch the train back to our friends, collect the kids, and make our way home. Then I have to be up early on Monday for a trip to London for work. Yes, I did consider staying in London to cut down on travelling time, but I know that by Sunday I will want to see the kids!
If you’re attending BritMums Live this weekend please say “hi”. I will warn you that I am not good with placing names and faces, especially in a big crowd, so please forgive me if I have met you before but don’t remember right away. I’m friendly and give great hugs though!

Hello! Hi! Nice to meet you (I’m right behind you!) x
I hope you had a fabulous time and the wine sure helped me!
Great event altogether and think I should have gone to your workshop as hoping to start vlogging but I think it clashed with one I was doing.
I came with my husband too but he was not at the conference but was good to have him vaguely around.
