For the longest time the geekdaughter only had one comforter for when she was sleeping – a large Taggies blanket. We ended up owning quite a few of them so that we could have one at nursery, one in the car, one at my Mums house and several spares at home. As she’s got older she’s been less dependent on it, although she still likes to have it in bed with her, and occasionally wants it if she’s feeling sad or cross. Just over a year ago we had a lovely outing to the Build-A-Bear Workshop, and both my kids were given their own bears to bring home. You can see the geekdaughter with hers in the photo to the left (and I can’t get over how much smaller she looks!). Now the geekdaughter has quite a few cuddly toys, and has in the past tended to have a different one to cuddle in bed each night, but in the last few weeks she’s really taken to this bear, which she calls “Cathy Bear”, and is only happy to go to sleep if she’s got both it and herTaggies.
We discovered the other day that Cathy Bear’s stitching was coming undone at the back, and her little heart that the geekdaughter had put in almost a year ago was visible and in danger of falling out. A trip to the bear repair people was needed. I know I could have taken her back to the Build-A-Bear workshop to be repaired, but that’s quite a trek, so instead my Mum offered to stitch the seam back together. We explained to the geekdaughter that her beloved bear would be having a short holiday with Granny, and whilst she wasn’t very keen on the idea of being without her even for a few days, she agreed. Granny sweetened the deal by letting the geekdaughter borrow one of her cuddly toys whilst Cathy Bear was away.
Last night was the geekdaughter’s third night without Cathy Bear, and it must have hit her because she woke up in the evening, sobbing and calling out for her bear. Obviously we couldn’t give her her bear, so we just had to cuddle her and remind her that she needed to look after Granny’s rabbit instead. She was clearly still sad though, as this morning before going to nursery she asked to write a letter to Cathy Bear. The geekdaddy had to tell her how to spell each word, but she decided herself what she wanted to say:
And she folded the letter up like a card, and drew a pretty flower on the front:
The geekdaddy had to promise to deliver the letter to Cathy Bear as soon as possible, which he did. Thankfully my Mum had completed the repairs, and the geekdaddy was able to bring Cathy Bear back home today. The geekdaughter was so excited to have her bear back, and even more excited to discover Cathy Bear had even replied to her letter:
Hopefully there will be no tears from the geekdaughter tonight! Thanks Mum

Aww….that is so adorable!!
I’ve just cried! What a wuss! Only because having had to stitch up Oliver Monkey several times, I know how much your little one loves Cathy Bear. Amazing isn’t it?

Aww this is so cute. What an adorable and caring little girl you have x
SO sweet! It’s funny how these toys become another member of the family. We have a ‘Hobbs’. Once when my daughter forgot him for a sleepover my OH found him lying on the floor in her bedroom and felt so sad he tucked him into bed for the night! (Probably with a goodnight kiss too!)

Oh, how cute is that? This brought a tear to my eye! My daughter is the same, she actually sleeps with around 30 teddies every night, despite promises to limit it to 4. I think she would be just as heartbroken to be without some of them too!
