One potato, two potato, three potato, four

by on August 8, 2012

The geekson is learning to count. He doesn’t always get all the right numbers in the right order, but he definitely seems to be making the association of pointing to an object and saying the number. He keeps asking to have counting books as his bedtime stories, and often grabs my hand when I’m working through them with him to encourage me to point at each object as we count.

At the weekend he was “helping” me cook lunch whilst the geekdaddy took the geekdaughter to her swimming lesson. I’d been peeling some potatoes, and there were 4 left on the counter. Without hesitation the geekson pointed to each one in turn and said “one, two, three, four”. I looked at him, wondering if he really had just counted the four potatoes, and he did it again. Confident that this must mean he is a child genius and can now count perfectly, I tried to capture him doing it again on video. As you’ll see, that didn’t go quite to plan…!

So, perhaps not a child genius, but I still think he’s doing well :)
