Meal Planning Monday – running late this week

by on October 24, 2012

I feel like I’ve been saying this a lot lately, but life has been pretty hectic over the last few weeks. It was the geekdaughter’s birthday, and a play barn party, then there was BlogCamp Manchester which I ended up speaking at, and then this weekend we’ve had some friends visiting us from France. Alongside that work has been manic, and I’ve been pulling extra long days in order to keep all my balls in the air. However, this weekend is half term, and I’m off work all week to look after the geekdaughter, which I’m hoping will also give me the change to recharge my batteries as well.

The geekdaughter definitely needs a half term break. She is enjoying school, and getting on very well, but finding it all very tiring. Last week she was unable to do anything after school in the afternoons, and flatly refused to go to her swimming lesson pleading that she was too tired. I’m hoping this week to balance some quiet days at home with some fun family time. The geekson will still be in nursery three days this week, which will give me some great girls’ time with my girl. Yesterday we had a nice shopping trip out together, and I’ve got a few other things in mind for the rest of the week too.

I have a very loose meal plan for this week – I have meals in mind for most days, but I’m also reserving the right to change my mind if I feel like it (note – this means if we’re out and about and it makes sense to eat out then I will!). The geekdaddy and I are still following the 5:2 eating plan. I think it’s fair to say that we’re both disappointed to not have lost weight doing it – we know it’s mostly for health benefits, but we did hope that cutting our calories on two days per week would have had some effect. We’re sticking with it for the moment though.

So here’s what my meal plan looks like for this week:

Monday: fast day, so no main meal to plan

Tuesday: Meal out (whole family off to the Trafford Centre)

Wednesday: second fast day

Thursday: Quick lamb casserole

Friday: Chinese Takeaway with friends visiting

Saturday: Vegetable hot pot

Sunday: Meal out with more friends

I’ll be linking this post up with the other Meal Planning Monday posts over on the At Home with Mrs M blog – why not head over there and see what other people are eating this week?

Do you know we’ve tried the 5:2 fast plan, did it for about a month before the MADs and it’s a toughy I think. Depends how hungry you get and how well you can manage that hunger! We did lose a few pounds but I think that came from a reduced appetite in the days following the fast! Good luck with your meals this week, it all sounds very sociable :)

We’re finding that low calorie cup-a-soups are good for fending off the hunger – we tend to both eat a main meal during the day on a fast day, and then have a cup-a-soup when hunger kicks in in the evening.
