Our house has been a house of sickness over the last week or so. I’ve been considering painting a red cross on the door, or wandering around with sackcloth over my face, ringing a little bell and shouting “unclean!” if people get too close.
OK, that’s probably a slight exaggeration, but it really does feel like we’ve all been under the weather recently…
I’ve already hinted at this in my week in pictures post where I shared the above picture of a poorly geekdaughter asleep on the sofa. Last Sunday and Monday nights she was awake several times overnight complaining of tummy ache. I’ve already written about my hatred of tummy ache and how hard it is to work out if she’s really ill or not. Given that her sleep is usually so good there was clearly something disturbing her, but we never got to the bottom of what it was. Thankfully after a couple of days she was back to her usual self.
Almost exactly the same time though the geekson got poorly. He was sent home early from nursery last Wednesday due to having produced a number of unpleasant nappies and generally not being himself. He was off his food for a few days as well, although continuing to drink well. I took him to the doctor on Friday, who couldn’t see anything wrong other than his tonsils being swollen (but no white spots, so not bacterial tonsillitis thankfully). I was instructed to give it a few days, and if he was still producing unpleasant nappies on Monday to bring him back in. Thankfully he was back to normal on Monday, although we kept him off nursery anyway just to be on the safe side.
In the midst of all this I started getting sinus headaches, including one afternoon where I could feel the space between my eyes throbbing in a most unpleasant manner. I checked this with the doctor too, and he again said probably nothing to worry about but come back in a few days if I wasn’t feeling better. I’m still very congested but thankfully the headaches seem to have passed now.
And just when we thought we were all getting better, yesterday the geekdaughter woke up with an upset stomach, and rounded off the day being explosively sick. So she’s off school today – her first day off sick since she started. Luckily it didn’t come on any earlier, as she had her first school trip yesterday and would have been very sad to have missed it. I’m hoping this will pass quickly.
And what of the geekdaddy in all of this? Well, he’s been fine in himself, but suffered a major virus infection in his business computers last week, and has spent the last week fighting malware and finally having to rebuild all the machines from scratch.
It’s fair to say we’re all feeling a little run down at the moment. Hopefully we’re through the worst though.
