This weekend I’m heading off to another blogging conference (and I can just see several of you rolling your eyes and saying “not ANOTHER blogging conference”, but bear with me). This one is different because it’s the first conference organised by Blogs Up North, who are dedicated to organising blogging events in the North of England, rather than London which seems to be where most stuff happens. Hoorah! Given that the train fare for me to get to London can be as much as £200, not to mention the two and a half hours travelling time each way, I’d love to see more stuff happening in the North for bloggers.
It’s traditional with conferences like this to write a little blog post to introduce yourself to all the new bloggers you’re going to meet, so if you want to know a little bit more about the geek behind this blog read on…
Well, I’m Ruth. I also answer to Rufus, Artoo and, of course, geekmummy. I’m a mother (my daughter is 5, my son 3), wife (my husband is a photographer, videographer and runs a ticket printing business) and geek (love my iOS devices, don’t get enough time to play World of Warcraft these days). I’ve been blogging for about 7 years on various platforms, although this blog has only been in existence for 3 years. I’m also an established podcaster, having produced an infertility podcast with my husband whilst we were going through the IVF treatment that led to our two kids. Last year we launched our new podcast which is basically an excuse for us to sit down every few weeks and chat about parenting and technology. I also produce an audio version of this blog. I enjoy trying to make technology easier for everyone to understand, so if you have any burning questions about blogging, podcasting or video production please come and have a chat with me at Blog On and I’ll try to help 🙂
Despite appearances I’m actually pretty shy, especially when meeting new people. I also have a dreadful memory for names and faces and frequently fail to recognise people I’ve met before, or call them by the wrong name. Apologies in advance if I get myself all in a muddle at Blog On.
This is me, I’m usually pretty easy to spot due to my curly ginger hair:
There’s more about me on my “About” page too!
I’m looking forward to meeting up with old friends, and making new ones, at Blog On at Manchester’s fabulous Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI) on Sunday! Will I see you there?
