It’s been a busy week this week, with the kids back to nursery and school, and me back to work. It’s been all about getting back into our usual routine, which we’ve just about managed, although as I write this on Saturday night we are all very tired and in need of a few early nights. I have managed to stick to my plan to publish a photo each day during the week using the Blipfoto app, and here is my second roundup post sharing this weeks photos:
Sunday 5 January 2014: Bedtime cuddles
My kids enjoy cuddles with Daddy before bedtime. It’s probably not totally in focus, as I’m still learning to use the x100, but I love how I’ve captured my son giving my husband a kiss on the cheek.
Monday 6 January 2014: Frozen Take 2
My son was back at nursery today, but my daughters school had an INSET day, so I took an extra day off work for a girlie day out. We went out for pizza lunch and then saw Disney’s Frozen for a second time. We loved it just as much as the first time, and it was nice to have some time together just the two of us.
Unfortunately she seems to have reached the stage where she pokes her tongue out whenever she is posed for a photo…
Tuesday 7 January 2014: Washing!
The last couple of days have been all about the washing. My son, who has recently completed toilet training, started asking to wear pants overnight instead of pull-ups. This confused me, as my daughter wore pull-ups overnight for a year after she stopped wearing during the day, so I was expecting similar this time around. However, when my son assured me that he was getting up in the night for a wee and then going back to bed again, and with a few weeks dry pull-ups behind him, we agreed to try pants overnight. We had a few successful days, but the last two nights he has had accidents, meaning that I have had to get up in the middle of the night to change him and his bedding. This morning he managed to get his duvet and blankie as well as himself and the sheet. We’ve agreed to give it one more go tonight, but if it happens again we’ll be back in pull-ups for a bit longer.
Wednesday 8 January 2014: Podcasting
This evening my husband and I sat down to record the first episode of our podcast (Parental Geekery) of 2014. This is an excuse for us to sit down and chat about things that interest us as parents and geeks. We try to record weekly wherever possible, although we did take a couple of weeks off over Christmas. It was good to get back “into the saddle” again. You can listen at the Parental Geekery website.
Thursday 9 January 2014: Rainbow
Walking back from school this afternoon we saw this lovely rainbow in the sky.
Friday 10 January 2014: Marmalade!
It is a well-known fact, at least with my family and friends, that my Mum makes THE BEST marmalade. I have several friends who always ask when they come to stay if they can take a jar home with them.
Today my Mum was making a batch of marmalade and my husband went over to help and see how it is done. Here he is with a jar of marmalade that he helped to create – doesn’t he look pleased with himself?
Saturday 11 January 2014: Origami
My husband is a bit of an origami enthusiast. He’s had a few books on the subject over the years, and when he went to the Doki Doki Japanese festival in Manchester a couple of months ago he finally learned how to make the classic origami crane. He was a happy chappy!
In our great decluttering of our office we uncovered a book of origami templates which he has been working through; hence we now have this little collection hanging around in our lounge. He’s even taught the kids how to make the cute little bunnies – apparently they’re pretty easy.
In terms of the photography, this was a chance for me to get the x100 out and have a play with depth of field.
