It’s the start of the Easter holidays, and I’m off work for the next two weeks, which I am really excited about. Things have been busy recently, and the house has suffered a bit – areas that I have previously decluttered are starting to look like they need tidying again, and there are still other areas I still want to tackle. I’m full of grand plans, although the geekdaddy is not off work and as he works from home we will need to make sure we don’t disturb him too much. I’ve had a good week this week, the highlight of which was definitely the arrival of my new car :D. Here’s my photos from the week:
Sunday 30 March 2014: Mother’s Day
Here in the UK it was Mother’s Day today, and my daughter insisted on bringing me breakfast in bed. Today’s photo is the tray she brought me – accompanying my bowl of granola are a card and mug from my son (thanks nursery!) and a superhero colouring sheet that my daughter had done for me.
Today is the first day in ages that I’ve taken load of photos and struggled to choose which one should be my photo of the day. So I’ve posted a few more of my favourites over on my mother’s day post.
Monday 31 March 2014: Frozen – the interactive version
The kids were watching Frozen on the TV this evening, when my son suddenly dashed over to where we keep all the Disney Infinity characters. In our collection are both the Anna and Elsa figures, and it took me a while to work out why my son kept waving them at the TV screen. Eventually I realised what he was doing – each time Anna appeared on screen he held up the Anna figure, and each time Elsa appeared he held up the Elsa figure.
That’s a new kind of interactive TV isn’t it?
Tuesday 1 April 2014: I don’t do well with sheer tights
The weather is getting warmer, which means I’m starting to wear my sheer tights and socks for work in place of the nice thick wooly ones that I’ve been wearing through the winter. And I’m remembering why I don’t get on well with sheer tights. Yesterday I out my fingers right through my tights whilst pulling them up, so today I thought I’d try wearing trousers instead with socks. However as y can see I’ve managed to ladder those too :/
Wednesday 2 April 2014: No more work until after Easter 🙂
This is my work laptop bag and work phone. The laptop has been shut down and packed away, and the phone is switched off. The out of office message is set on my email and voicemail. I am now ON HOLIDAY until after Easter!
We’re not going away – I expect there’ll be a few day trips, but I’ll mostly be around the house with my son and daughter, enjoying family time. I’m really looking forward to it 🙂
Thursday 3 April 2014: Tuned and Ready
I own a piano. It was a gift from my parents when I passed my Grade 5 piano exam, and my mother started telling people I could “play the piano” rather than I “was learning”. It got left at home when I went to University, and that’s when I stopped my daily practice and lost a lot of my skills. When I bought my first home we got the piano moved up, and we were re-united.
It’s been a little neglected over the last few years. It suffered a broken pedal and the piano tuner I had found didn’t recognise the mechanism and was unable to fix it. We moved house almost 15 years ago, and I haven’t had it tuned since we moved, because it’s hard to find good piano tuners, and I’d been burned a little by my previous experience.
However I spotted a recommendation on the notice board at work, followed it up, and today a lovely piano tuner came and tuned my piano. He reassured me that it was still in reasonable condition, and although showing it’s age (he estimates it was built in the 1940s) it has plenty of life left. He wasn’t able to restore it to full concert pitch as it was quite flat and he didn’t want to stress the strings. But he’s brought it up so it’s only about a semitone off, and is coming back in 6 months to re-tune it back to concert pitch.
Best of all, he was not at all phased by my broken pedal, has seen the mechanism before and thinks he’ll be able to repair it.
To celebrate I treated myself to the Frozen sheet music (easy piano version!) and I’m looking forward to playing again 🙂
Friday 4 April 2014: My New Car
My beautiful new Nissan Note was delivered today. I love it just as much as I did when I test drove it 🙂
Saturday 5 April 2014: Beautiful Girl
I snapped this picture of my daughter and my husband whilst they were playing in the kitchen together today. It was inspired by one I have of the two of them in a similar pose when she was just four months old. I’m trying to get into the habit of taking lots of shots in the hope that one will come out well, and this one is a real winner as far as I’m concerned.
