Over the Easter holidays we were invited by Next to their Head Office to view the new Spring/Summer collection for kids in their “Mock Shop”. The geekdaughter and I have been to a couple of events hosted by Next previously, but this is the first one I felt brave enough to take both kids along to. The geekson deserves some fun too, after all. We had a good time, and although it was definitely more challenging with attempting to wrangle two kids and check out the new lines, I managed to get a good feel for the Spring/Summer collection, and wanted to share the things we liked best with you.
I was pleased to see, first of all, that there are a good variety of colours in the kids range. Whilst there was a lot of pink around, I got a very strong sense that blues are going to be in fashion with the girls this year:
Although the geekdaughter was very keen to show me that she loves pink:
I was reassured by this collection that there are still plenty of pretty things in the geekdaughter’s size – she’s comfortably into the “older girls” ranges now, and because they cater to such a wide age range I sometimes find her being drawn to clothes that I don’t think are entirely appropriate for a six year old (mostly the fashion for very short shorts with tights beneath). Happily there wasn’t anything in the collection we were shown that I would have any problem with her wearing.
Although I do wish she was still small enough to fit into some of the beautiful “younger girls” clothes like this one:
As for the geekson, well he started out being quite shy:
But then his super-sharp eyes spotted clothes with his beloved Skylanders on them, and he begged me to buy them – I had to explain that it wasn’t a real shop and I couldn’t:
He also managed to find a few things with vehicles on the front, including this rather lovely car jumper:
And when the end of the event came there were a couple of things he really didn’t want to put down:
In the boys range I loved the huge selection of character T-shirts, particularly the “Plants versus Zombies” and “Lego Movie” ones:
There is also a range of really fun “slogan” T-shirts:
Several of which have back prints as well:
And if we get any invitations to formal things, I am totally going to get this for the geekson:
We enjoyed a couple of hours looking at all the clothes, and had the opportunity to speak with the buyers about the ranges if we wished (sadly this was not possible when trying to keep track of two kids in a large space!). After we’d finished we were then taken to a local restaurant where the kids got to make their own lunch:
Disclosure: Next paid my travel expenses for this event, and sent us away with goodie bags at the end.
