Mario Kart 8, the latest installment in the highly successful Mario Kart series of games, was released last week for Wii-U, and as Nintendo family bloggers we were sent a copy to try. Along with our copy of the game the team at Nintendo have posed a series of challenges for all their bloggers which will play out over the coming weeks. The first challenge was to design our own (Mario) Kart and share it on our blogs.
Well, within the geek family we are not really known for our craft ability, but all four of us really embraced this challenge. An idle thought of mine (“I wonder if we could make a kart out of this old cardboard box?”) turned into a full-on family project, with all 4 of us participating in the creation of the ultimate kart!
The geekdaddy was in charge of design:
The kids were in charge of decoration:
And the Skylanders supervised:
We cut, painted and glued. And by the end of the day we had our completed kart:
And as innocuous as it looks at first glance, our kart actually has some special features that will help it speed to victory.
First of all there’s the big number 1 emblazoned on its bonnet. This car will always be number one, even when it’s not winning!
Then there’s the driver – we’ve got our very own Luigi at the helm for this one, and he is a very fast driver:
And finally, if those two secret weapons don’t work, we’ve installed a pair of rocket boosters on the back to ensure victory:
We are really proud of our efforts. Thank you Nintendo for giving us the inspiration to create this amazing (in our eyes anyway!) kart. We had a load of fun doing it:
Disclosure: We were sent a copy of Mario Kart 8 for review purposes, and some craft materials to inspire us to make our own kart. There are prizes up for grabs for participating in the Nintendo Blogger challenges, but that wasn’t what motivated us to take part. We did it because it was fun.
