It’s been over a month since we we given our copy of Skylanders Swap Force, and the geekson is still borderline obsessed. He points out the logo wherever we go – on other kids’ lunchboxes, in shop windows, and even when shoe shopping (yes, he ended up with a pair of Skylanders shoes that day!). He’s taken to choosing to play Skylanders instead of watching TV in the afternoons. He knows pretty much all the Skylander names (inspired marketing by Activision including a poster with all the Skylanders on it in the starter set!). So when I was asked if I’d like to join in with a Skylanders Half Term adventure I knew I had to say “yes!”.
It was a simple enough challenge. We would be sent a new Skylander and our mission was to take him along on our Half Term adventures outside of the game, and share a few photos of what we got up to.
Here’s what happened when our new Skylander arrived:
We were sent Scorp, an Earth Skylander with two nifty attacks – he can either hurl a sticky ball at his enemies or sting them with his scorpion-like tail. The geekson wanted to play with him straight away, and disappeared off with him as soon as I’d finished recording the above video. As well as playing him in game, we took Scorp out and about with us over Half Term.
We went to the cinema to watch Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return, and Scorp came too. We discovered he loves popcorn:
The geekdaughter and I went to a science show at our local theatre as part of the Amazed by Science festival, and Scorp came too. He wasn’t too keen on the loud bangs!
On Friday it was the geekson’s fourth birthday, and he received a few more new Skylanders as gifts, included his much-desired Magna Charge, who he’s been asking for on a daily basis for about the last month. As a birthday treat we all went to Drayton Manor theme park, primarily to visit Thomasland, and both Scorp and Magna Charge came with us. They rode on all the rides, but were tucked into my handbag for safe keeping. They came out at lunchtime when they both tried to pinch some of the geekson’s pizza:
And at the end of the day they came out again to sit on Rosie for a final picture with the happy birthday boy:
Aside from those outings our Half Term was mostly spent quietly at home, trying to tidy up, sort out, rest, recuperate and play a little bit of Skylanders!
Disclosure: We were sent Scorp for the purpose of this post.
