I’m late publishing this week’s roundup as we’ve had an amazingly busy weekend – a trip to London to stay with a very good friend of ours. We left right after school on Friday and didn’t get back until past the kids’ bedtime this evening. We had a wonderful time, and I’m sure I’ll talk more about it over the coming days! For now, here is my selection of daily photos for this week:
Sunday 28 September 2014: Up to his neck in it!
Most of my best friends are people we were at University with, who now live all over the country (well, all over the world!). We don’t get to see them as often as we would like, and it’s increasingly difficult to get us all together as we all have busy lives and kids to juggle.
As an experiment I found a date where a reasonable number of us seemed to be free, picked a park in a suitable-looking central location and suggested we try meeting up for a picnic.
It worked out really well. Fourteen adults and 11 children descended on the War Memorial Park in Coventry. The kids raced around and played together, and the adults got to sit on the grass and chat. Fortunately the weather was glorious.
One of the nice things about the War Memorial Park is that all the children’s play areas are built on sand, so as well as the usual climbing, sliding and swinging that goes on in these places, the kids can also play with the sand. And bury themselves in it…!
Monday 29 September 2014: Picking Flowers
For the first time since starting my daily photo project in January I completely failed to take any photos today! So here’s another photo from our picnic yesterday – my son picking flowers in the park.
Tuesday 30 September 2014: Reading the catalogue
The kids were sent home from school today with the latest fundraising catalogue, and my son didn’t even to wait to leave the playground before opening his up! Both kids have had great fun reading through and ticking all the things they like – I keep stressing that doesn’t mean they’ll necessarily GET any of them though!
Wednesday 1 October 2014: Hospital Visit
This is the children’s centre at my local hospital. We’ve been bringing my son here regularly since he was born to have his hydrocele checked. We had hoped it was healing properly, but today it was confirmed that he will need a small surgery to correct it. It won’t require a hospital stay, but will need a couple of days off school, and a couple of weeks off strenuous activities. We’re going to try to get it booked in for next summer to minimise the impact on his schooling.
I’m not looking forward to explaining operations and anaesthetics to a 5 year old 🙁
Thursday 2 October 2014: Not-so-subtle hint
I turned our calendar over to October today (only one day late – that’s pretty good for me!) to discover my daughter had obviously been there first and had left me a not-so-subtle hint!
Friday 3 October 2014: Reading Together
With a busy weekend in London planned we headed straight to the station after school. We were a little early for our train and so spent about half an hour in the waiting room at the station. My husband treated himself and our daughter to new reading books, and they sat next to each other, reading.
Saturday 4 October 2014: Matilda
A big treat for all of us today – a trip to the West End to see Matilda. The kids first West End experience, and we all absolutely loved it. Brilliant show with amazing staging. Highly recommended.
