A year ago I made a resolution. In an attempt to encourage myself to take more photographs I would join “Project 365” – a challenge to post a photo a day for a whole year. This is my final post of the year, and with this massive catchup (I’ve had to roll two weeks together again due to having been ill over Christmas) I have completed that challenge! It has definitely made me take more photos than usual, and is certainly something I’m going to continue in 2015 (with a few small tweaks which I’ll write about in a separate post) . For now I’ll say farewell to 2014 with my final selection of daily photos from the last two and a bit weeks:
Sunday 14 December 2014: Performance
My son and daughter put a little show on for us this evening. I suspect my daughter was more enthusiastic about it than my son, but thankfully all he seemed to need to do was let her pick him up (she called it “lifting”), or sit down out of the way whilst she danced! Ah, it’s a hard life being the little brother isn’t it?!
Monday 15 December 2014: That’s not a wine glass…
For some reason this was the glass that came to hand when my husband went to pour himself a glass of wine this evening…
Tuesday 16 December 2014: Writing his Christmas cards
My daughter wrote Christmas cards for all her classmates a week or so ago, all off her own back. I didn’t want to push my son into writing cards because (a) he is still learning to write and (b) he is still getting to know the other kids in his class at school. By eventually, and almost too late in the day, he decided he would write some cards. I was expecting to do most of the writing with him just signing his name, but bless him he wanted to do all the ŵriting – and he did!
Wednesday 17 December 2014: No-one likes the blue ones
The end of a tub of chocolates at my office today. Why does nobody like the blue ones?
Thursday 18 December 2014: Christmas Fairy
My daughter made a new fairy for the top of our tree..
Friday 19 December 2014: First Christmas Lunch
I gatecrashed my husband’s office Christmas lunch today, and this was my rather delicious meal – Christmas pie! Yes, that pie has turkey, ham and sausagemeat in it! very festive it tasted too.
Saturday 20 December 2014: Strictly Feet
This evening I snuggled on the sofa with both kids to watch the final of this year’s Strictly Come Dancing. They both got new slippers today 🙂
Sunday 21 December 2014: Decorated
Never leave a four year old alone with a packet of stickers… Rookie mistake, Ruth, rookie mistake!
Monday 22 December 2014: Better with a plan
With being ill, plus juggling work, Pantomime rehearsals and everything that needs doing at home for Christmas, I’ve been feeling a bit stressed recently, and was even thinking this might be the year I run out of time to send Christmas cards! However a god nights sleep and a bit of calm thought meant I came up with a plan of how to fit everything in to the remaining time 🙂
I recorded an audio blog entry about making this plan:
Tuesday 23 December 2014: My Christmas Card
I know I keep going on about how well my son’s writing has come on since he started school, but I’m still impressed with how well he’s doing. He never showed much interest in writing before he started, but it’s like he “gets” it now, and he just wants to write all the time. Today he presented me with a Christmas card that he had made for me all on his own. The writing is still shaky but hopefully you can make out the words:
Love him 🙂
Wednesday 24 December 2014: Meeting Santa
Christmas Eve is kids Christmas party day at my office. All employees can bring their kids in, and there are activities for them to do, plus they get breakfast in our canteen and there’s a visit from Santa. One last chance to get their requests in for tonight!
Thursday 25 December 2014: Christmas spread
This is the wonderful Christmas spread that my Mum cooked up for us this year 🙂 Merry Christmas everyone!
Friday 26 December 2014: Two headed
It’s a boy with a LEGO head on his head!
Saturday 27 December 2014: Little Bookworm?
I’ve been hoping my daughter will develop a love of books. It seems to have been a long time coming – she still seems to regard reading as something she HAS to do, not something to do for fun. She asked for a Kindle for Christmas, and we stocked it with a few books before giving it to her. At lunch yesterday I had my first glimpse of a possible bookworm emerging…
Sunday 28 December 2014: Jenga face!
One of my daughter’s Christmas presents was Jenga, with a twist – this is Uno Jenga! We had a fun game of it today 🙂
Monday 29 December 2014: Who photographs the photographer?
This is my photo of my husband taking a photo of our daughter 🙂
Tuesday 30 December 2014: Giant bubble!
My daughter spent a whole £2.46 of her Christmas money on a giant bubble kit, and spent a happy hour or so in the garden this morning producing things like this. Much fun 🙂
Wednesday 31 December 2014: My Sous Chef
We have friends coming to stay for New Year, and as is traditional I cooked up a huge pan of bolognese. Today I had a little helper, who can now not only chop peppers, but can peel carrots too.
