I, like many other people, made resolutions at the start of 2014. Things I wanted to accomplish over the year. As usual I started out with wild enthusiasm, but that gradually waned, to the extent that today I had to dig out the blog post where I wrote down my resolutions because I couldn’t remember what they were!
At the start of last year I wanted to get the finances under control. Well, we’re definitely in a better place than we were, and still using You Need A Budget to keep track of our money, but I’m not yet convinced we’re actually living within our means, and I feel like there’s more to do in this space.
I also vowed to take more photographs. I definitely succeeded at this one. Using the Blipfoto app and joining in with the Project 365 link-up kept me motivated throughout the year, and I finished 2014 having shared at least one photo per day for the whole year. I enjoyed this so much I shall be doing it again this year.
And finally I vowed to exercise more. Well, here, as has happened so many times before, I didn’t do so well. I did take part in a flash mob dance at the MAD Blog Awards in September which required some quite intensive training, but since then I’ve been largely inactive. I’m still struggling to fit exercise that I enjoy into my lifestyle.
So that brings us to 2015. And rather than make any more resolutions which I’ll have forgotten by the end of the year, this year I have chosen a single word that will guide me throughout the year. A word I will think of whenever I have to make decisions, or if I need some extra motivation. A word that encompasses everything I want to achieve. And that word is MOVE.
In the most literal sense I want to MOVE more. Having rediscovered my love of dance last year, I want to do more of that. I have my eye on a Friday morning Zumba class to try out. This is just one step towards getting more active and healthy, and will be something I look to start when I’ve had my gallbladder reMOVEd, hopefully in the not too distant future. I also want to find other fun ways to MOVE, and get my fitness levels up.
I have a couple of projects I want to MOVE forward with. I want to MOVE Parental Geekery (the podcast I produce with the geekdaddy) onto a regular weekly schedule. I also want to get the launch of my new podcast MOVing (more about this as it happens). To get me into the habit of recording audio regularly I’ll be getting MOVing with the 15 day audio challenge which I signed up for before Christmas but haven’t managed to start yet.
(As an aside, I find it interesting that at a time when more and more bloggers are talking about their YouTube channels and making more video, I’m focussing on my podcasts, and wanting to make more audio. I’m not saying I won’t carry on making video, but audio blogging is definitely my first love.)
I also want to keep things MOVing here too. I love the opportunities that blogging brings me (and my family), and I love capturing all those family milestones. I want to continue to make this blog my little space on the Internet.
2015 is year I will MOVE the whole family across the channel for our once-in-a-lifetime holiday to Disneyland Paris – ooooh I can’t wait!
I want to keep all my decluttering activity MOVing – there’s still an awful lot of stuff that I want to MOVE out of the house, either to the tip, to the charity shop, or to a new owner via eBay.
And most of all I want to avoid procrastination, so on those occasions that I’m sat in front of my PC in the evenings switching between Twitter, Facebook and Google+ but not getting anything done I want to be able to say to myself “come on Ruth, MOVE!”.
So that is why MOVE is my word for 2015.
