It’s another two-week catchup for me today – I’ve been poorly again (honestly, the sooner I can get the gallbladder removed the better!), and then last week was Half Term and I was busy entertaining the kids with very little time for blogging. We’ve had a fun couple of weeks though, as I hope the following photos will show:
Sunday 8 February 2015: Shaun the Sheep
Family movie time again today, as we all went to our local cinema to watch Shaun the Sheep: The Movie. An enjoyable film with plenty of laughs and lots of “in” jokes for the older viewer.
Monday 9 February 2015: Sleeping cat
This is my very elderly cat. He’s a 19 year old Devon Rex, and he’s very much an old man now. He spends most of his days sleeping, and has taken up permanent residence on my kitchen counter above the boiler where it is nice and warm. His old cat basket was so dirty that at the weekend I treated him to a new mat to sleep on. Here he is looking very contented on it.
OK, now he looks more comfortable 🙂 #tw #catsofinstagram #devonrex #oldman #newbed #365 40/365 A photo posted by Ruth Arnold (@r2uk) on
Tuesday 10 February 2015: Me and My Boy
I grabbed this shot of the geekson and I during bedtime stories this evening. It’s very grainy as it was taken with the iPhone’s front facing camera in poor light, but as someone who doesn’t take enough photos of herself with her kids I’m not going to let that stop me sharing it.
Wednesday 11 February 2015: Homework
My daughter is studying Roahl Dahl at school this term, and they’ve been reading The Twits. One of her pieces of homework was to create a three course meal suitably horrible for The Twits to eat. We got quite creative and came up with this:
Her homework was to make a meal suitably disgusting for “The Twits” to eat. I think she did well 🙂 #365 42/365 A photo posted by Ruth Arnold (@r2uk) on
Thursday 12 February 2015: Banished
When I was putting my son to bed this evening he told me he was scared of his dragon. I put it on his floor, out of sight. Shortly after I had wished him goodnight and closed the door I heard the pad-pad-pad of his feet, and then the door opening and closing. When I checked to see what was going on I found this – the dragon had been banished outside!
Friday 13 February 2015: Matchbox challenge
The kids’ school are currently fundraising for a “pet corner”, and one of the ways they are raising money is by having the kids undertake a sponsored “matchbox challenge”. They were each given a matchbox and challenged to fill it with as many different things as they could. They could be sponsored “per item” or a total amount. My daughter managed 44 items which we thought was pretty good going.

Saturday 14 February 2015: Bedtime Stories
I have been really poorly again – some kind of stomach bug rather than the gallbladder this time. I’ve spent the last 24 hours in bed, and so the only photo I’ve had a chance to snap was this one – my two boys sharing their bedtime story:
Sunday 15 February 2015: Game of Life
My daughter is showing more and more interest in board games. She chose to attend the board games after school club this term, and has been asking about the boxes of games we have on our shelves. She’s been asking to try the Game of Life for some time now, and today we had a free afternoon so gave it a go. She really enjoyed it, and I am delighted as it’s one of the games that the geekdaddy won’t play with me (he’s not a fan of “roll the dice, move the counter” games!). I now have a new gaming buddy or two 🙂

Monday 16 February 2015: Outdoor Fun
My daughter was poorly today, and spent most of the day on the sofa under her duvet. I wanted to take my son out and get some fresh air, so we went to our local farm, which is just down the road and has a great adventure playground as well as animals to feed. It was just what we both needed, and I snapped this picture of him playing happily 🙂
Tuesday 17 February 2015: Geocaching
As a family we really enjoy geocaching (modern-day treasure hunting), and there is a cache very near to our house which we failed to find the last time we looked for it. This time we brought Daddy along for extra help, and after a quick hunt were successful.
We found a geocache 🙂 #tw #365 48/365 A photo posted by Ruth Arnold (@r2uk) on
Wednesday 18 February 2015: Pancakes
I can’t believe we completely forgot it was Shrove Tuesday yesterday! To compensate we cooked pancakes for tea tonight instead.
Thursday 19 February 2015: Exhausted
We had a trip to the Trafford Centre today to meet my blogging friends Lindy and Sally for lunch. I didn’t think we’d done anything particularly tiring, but in the car on the way home both kids dozed off, and this is how they were by the time I pulled up on my drive:
I think I wore them out today… 🙂 #23snaps #catherine #david #tw #365 50/365 A photo posted by Ruth Arnold (@r2uk) on
Friday 20 February 2015: Best T-shirt Ever!
Whilst we were at the Trafford Centre yesterday we may have found our way into The Disney Store. Where I found this T-shirt, which I just had to buy!
Saturday 21 February 2015: The Lion King
We had a family theatre trip today, to see The Lion King in Manchester. I took my daughter to see it exactly 2 years ago, and when the promotional leaflet came through the door this time she grabbed it and demanded that we take her brother and father with us this time! We all thoroughly enjoyed it, although my son was a little worried by the bit where Mufasa dies…
We all loved The Lion King 🙂 #tw #365 52/365 A photo posted by Ruth Arnold (@r2uk) on
