It’s Mother’s Day. So far today I’ve enjoyed breakfast in bed, and had some lovely home-made cards and presents from my kids. We’re heading off for lunch at our local all-you-can-eat Indian and Thai buffet (I refuse to cook or wash up on Mother’s Day!). I hope all those who are celebrating today have a lovely day. Today was a good week. I think I finally have a date for my gallbladder surgery so I have finally been able to make plans and get organised. Here’s a selection of what we’ve been up to this week:
Sunday 8 March 2015: Game Inventor
My daughter has been getting more and more into board and card games recently. She’s been going to a board games after school club this term and we’ve been playing more games as a family. Today she decided she was going to invent her own card game, and she actually came up with a pretty neat idea!
Monday 9 March 2015: The book about cars and machines
My son has been working on his writing and drawing a lot recently, and can often be found scribbling away. Today I gave him a folded piece of paper to doodle on, and he decided it would be a book.

Tuesday 10 March 2015: Brownie badges
When my daughter made her Brownie promise last week she was presented with a whole collection of badges that needed to be sewed onto her uniform. Now, I possess very few sewing skills, but I can sew on a button, so I thought I would probably be OK with the badges as well. It took a couple of evenings, as I am not fast, but the badges were in all place in time for her next meeting 🙂
Wednesday 11 March 2015: Hanging Basket
I don’t have much success keeping plants alive. Yes Mum, I know I need to water them if I want them to thrive, I just keep forgetting! I bought this beautiful Spring basket a couple of weeks ago, and it’s still going – yay!
Two weeks on, and I haven’t killed my hanging basket yet! Love the Spring colours 🙂 #tw #365 70/365 A photo posted by Ruth Arnold (@r2uk) on
Thursday 12 March 2015: Going wild with the sprinkles
We did some baking at the weekend, including, at my daughter’s insistence, a giant cupcake. Today we finally got around to icing it, and I made the mistake of giving her all my cake decorations and telling her to “go wild” with them. This was the result!
Friday 13 March 2015: Red Nose
Today was Red Nose Day, and my husband came back from his Code Club this afternoon sporting this little decoration – is it the smallest Red Nose ever?

Saturday 14 March 2015: Family Tabletop Gaming
We enjoyed a fun couple of games of “The Kids of Carcassonne” this afternoon. The geekdaddy and I enjoy playing the full-fledged Carcassonne, and this is a great way to introduce the kids to the basic idea in a more simple way.
