I’m doing another one of my two-week catch-up posts again, because it’s been quite an eventful Half Term and I’ve had less time for blogging than I would have liked. We’ve had more than our fair share of dramas over the last fortnight, which all feature in the photos below – my son first being poorly and then cutting his head open and being raced to A&E, and also the loss of my beloved 19 year old cat. Thankfully the fortnight has ended on a high, with a very successful 5th birthday party for the geekson. So here are my highs and lows from the last fortnight:
Sunday 17 May 2015: Coin Pusher
We had a family trip to the cinema today, and ended up arriving rather early. The kids raced off into the arcade, where I was delighted to discover a coin pusher machine. I converted some money into 2p pieces, and we all had loads of fun. We lost the money in the end, but it lasted a good long time.
Monday 18 May 2015: Tower Building
My daughter enjoys playing with our Jenga blocks, although more often than not she’s building a tower rather than actually playing the game. She was particularly pleased with this one (until her brother came along and knocked it over!)
Very proud of herself for building a tall tower (which her brother then knocked over minutes after this photo was taken!) #tw #23snaps #catherine #365 138/365 A photo posted by Ruth Arnold (@r2uk) on
Tuesday 19 May 2015: Bedtime Stories
My family all cuddled together reading bedtime stories. I’m thinking my son might have spotted me taking the picture!
Wednesday 20 May 2015: The Lost Carnival
We’ve been given press tickets for an outdoor theatre event called The Lost Carnival, and they were delivered today, along with a golden feather which apparently we have to take with us as well. Intriguing.
Got my tickets, got my instructions, got my golden feather. All ready for #TheLostCarnival tonight with @_wildrumpus #review #page #365 140/365 A photo posted by Ruth Arnold (@r2uk) on
Thursday 21 May 2015: Castle Dress Up
My daughter is studying at school this term, and as part of this she went on a school trip to a local castle today. The children were all told they could dress up as “something to do with castles”, and this was my daughter’s choice of outfit. I think the leggings are particularly appropriate, don’t you?!
Friday 22 May 2015: Silver Star
There’s a scheme at my kids’ school to encourage them to learn their times tables. They are tested on them each week, and if they can complete a test in certain tables they earn themselves a star badge. My daughter earned her bronze badge (for knowing her 2s, 5s and 10s) very quickly, but has been working on her silver badge for what feels like ages. This week she finally succeeded at demonstrating her knowledge of her 3, 4 and 6 times tables, and earned this silver star as reward.
Saturday 23 May 2015: Happy Birthday Daddy
It was my husband’s birthday today, and my son decided to make him a card. I suggested he write “Happy Birthday” in the middle of the card, but he decided instead to be more ambitious. His full message reads “To Daddy, happy birthday, I hope you have lots of presents”. Bless 🙂
Sunday 24 May 2015: Birthday Cake
We were racing around like mad things yesterday, and didn’t actually get as far as giving the geekdaddy his birthday cake. So we did it belatedly today instead.
Belated birthday cake for @floyduk as we didn’t have time to do it yesterday #tw #365 144/365 A photo posted by Ruth Arnold (@r2uk) on
Monday 25 May 2015: Duvet Day
My son was sick overnight, so we prescribed him a duvet day. He was quite happy to sit in the lounge and play Mario Kart.
Tuesday 26 May 2015: Scarred
I had a phone call at work today. The geekdaddy called me from the car to say that the geekson had fallen over and cut his head, and he was taking him to A&E. It was a very upsetting call, as I could her my son crying in the background “Daddy, it hurts”. It was quite a deep gash, but A&E patched him up, glued it together and then stuck tape over it, so that by the time I got home he was looking much brighter. I suspect he’s going to end up with a scar though.
Wednesday 27 May 2015: Empty Cat Bed
We had to have my poor old cat put down tonight. I am very sad 🙁
Thursday 28 May 2015: Canal Cleaning
I took the kids up to the Sea Life Centre, Manchester today to take part in a blogger event learning about their conservation programmes. We helped clear litter up from a local canal, and the whole group picked up 82.3kg of rubbish. Here are the kids heading out in their special high-vis jackets.

Friday 29 May 2015: Junk Modelling
We had a quiet day at home today, trying to catch up from the very busy and emotional Half Term week so far. The kids grabbed the recycling box and made themselves a car out of the contents.
Saturday 30 May 2015: Happy 5th Birthday
It was the geekson’s 5th birthday today, and he had a lovely party at a local play barn. It was Planes-themed, and I arranged for a special cake with Dusty on top – he was delighted. This photo was taken by the geekdaddy as none of mine came out properly.

Usually I link my Photo a Day posts to a Linky hosted by The Boy And Me. However she’s taking a brief hiatus, so until she’s back there is a blog hop running instead. So if you want to see how other bloggers are getting on with their photo a day projects simply click on their pictures below:
