Here in the geek family we love our tablets. We’ve seen first hand the educational benefits these devices can have, and we’re on a constant mission to find good quality, cost effective family tablets. iPads are lovely, but very expensive, and Android based tablets like the Nexus 7 are starting to prove really viable alterntatives. I was offered the chance to try out the brand new Acer Iconia B1, a sub-£100 7-inch Android tablet; here’s what I thought of it.

I must confess when Panasonic asked me to be one of their “Intelligent Living Mums” I hesitated for a split second. Whilst I do possess all the basic skills needed to run a household, I wouldn’t say I was really known for my domestic ability. However they seduced me with their offer of a trip to their Home Appliances Innovation Centre in Bracknell to see loads of their products in their test kitchen, to give feedback to their product development team, and maybe even get to try some out for myself. The LeapFrog LeapPad Explorer is tipped to be one of the most sought-after toys this Christmas. It’s a child’s tablet device, with a touchscreen, built -in camera, and access to a large selection of games via an online store. Does that sound similar to another device, maybe? I am sure there are many iPad-owning parents who are really hoping that this is the toy that will enable them to claim their tablet back from their offspring! But will it do that? We were sent a LeapPad Explorer to review a couple of months ago, and having had a decent amount of time to test it, I am now ready to share my full thoughts on the device…
