It’s reached breaking point

by on September 19, 2012

I have debated long and hard about writing this blog post. There are some things that perhaps should not be blogged about. Things that might be best left “behind closed doors”. Things you might not want to know about me. You see, this is something I’m not proud of. It’s something I’m positively ashamed of. It’s a situation that’s been brewing for a long time, that has finally reached a head. I could tell it was bad when it started bothering the geekdaddy enough for him to comment on it, and saying we had to do something to change things.

Yes, our house is a complete tip, and we have to do something to sort it out!

The cake is not a lie

by on December 29, 2011

I don’t cook. No really, I don’t. I follow recipes, and produce meals out of necessity, rather than pleasure. So I’m not quite sure what possessed me to suddenly want to make a Christmas cake this year. I blame Waitrose – every week I’ve been in there for about the last two months they’ve had piles and piles of their “make your own Delia Christmas cake” kits all over the store. And every week I’ve walked right past them, until the week before Christmas, when they’d all been marked down to half price – £5 rather than £10. And seeing as how I can’t resist a bargain, I grabbed one.

Mind you, after I’d been around the shop to pick up all of the extra ingredients that weren’t included in the box, I’m not sure it was that much of a bargain after all!

Silent Sunday

I have two nephews – oldernephew is 5 and youngernephew is 2. The geekdaughter is closest in age to oldernephew, and has always played more with him than with youngernephew. We are very fortunate in that most of our extended family live very close, and my sister-in-law and her family live just the other side of the same town as us. This means that we get to see them frequently, and both the geekdaughter and geekson are growing up very close to their cousins.

Individually, all the kids are very well behaved. The geekdaughter has a rebellious streak (she gets it from her father!), but on the whole will do as she is told. Oldernephew is a lovely boy, and again very willing and compliant. The problem comes when the two of them get together, where one of them turns into an Evil Genius. We’re not sure which one it is, but I must confess that I have a sneaking suspicion that it’s my daughter. The two of them together seem to get themselves into all sorts of trouble.
